In the midst of election maddness, I will be riding the train through the New England mountains for a conference in Northampton, Massachusetts.

Upon my return, I will share pictures and tell tales of hot chocolate sipped on strolls through sleepy New England towns. Or, more likely, I'll tell you how gorgeous it is up there, how I spent too much time in meetings and how much I miss those days when we gathered leaves and jumped in them on The Green at Mount Holyoke.

New Mexico!

I'm heading off tomorrow morning for the sandy, desert locale of Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I'll be doing a health care training for some very fierce young women organizers.

The Southwest is a mystery to me, and I've always romanticized its bleak beauty. Maybe it's all the Joan Didion novels that I've been reading, but I'm going to enjoy my 18 hours in New Mexico immensely, I'm sure.

I have a ton to say about the state of the nation, but it'll have to wait, for now.
